‘Acting is like changing clothes'
20 Nov 2010 | 2604 Views | Mina

After recovering from a bout of typhoid and an eye infection to follow it up, Sonam Kapoor is still taking precautions. The reason she gets food from home when she is in tinsel town, mostly tuna fish salad for lunch. “But a slice of pizza is always welcome when I’m travelling,” declares Sonam, adding that this is how she lives her life.

“Though there are negativities all around, I look forward for some positive elements that can make me smile. In this case, it was a slice of pizza. But there are chances when I’m not at my best then also I know how to keep myself happy. Can you believe it that while I was suffering from typhoid I got this eye infection that people thought was very irritating but I found it cool. In fact, I felt like putting on a patch on that eye and move around the city like a pirate.” And the stylish diva had a chance to play a pirate on the beaches of Goa where she was shooting for her next film Player with her favourite co-star Abhishek Bachchan.

“I think anyone who would not even have a clue about my shooting schedule in Goa would guess that I was there as my tanned skin is speaking of the sun bath I enjoyed. It was one of the best schedules I have ever had with people like Abbas-Mastan and obviously, I was thrilled when I got a second chance to work with Bachchan Jr,” she says with a twinkle in her eyes.

After her super-stylish looks in her last movie, Aisha, we will watch her perform some action scenes on screen. About her sporty image in the film, Sonam says, “So far each of my characters in my movies have had a bit of me. For example, I love dressing up smartly like I did in Aisha and I’m naughty and fun-loving like Bittu in Delhi 6. But my character in Player is just what I am. I have played a complete tomboy and that is what real Sonam Kapoor is.”

But the statement coming from someone dressed in a chic grey skirt and a Dior shirt, often known for her feminine style in Bollywood, is unbelievable. “But believe me, this is how I’ve to portray myself now and so I’ll have to be like this. Otherwise I didn’t even go to the parlour for getting my eyebrows done before Saawariya and I always got bashings from my mom for that. I love fashion but I enjoy sitting with my legs apart. I love wearing traditional Kolhapuri chappals but I’m a huge gadget and car freak. In fact, I’ve different facets to my personality,” she asserts, flashing a broad smile.

The actor adds she “really really” wants a luxury car A8 for herself but can’t get it as the condition of Indian roads is “bad”. “It’s a very sad decision for a car freak like me but I really can’t help it,” she says.

Sonam has been, time and again, termed as a source of inspiration for fashion-conscious young girls today. But the actor is not someone who believes in acting modest. “I love playing that part and being known for my style. There is a different fun in getting dressed up in the most chic and varied styles and flaunting well-known brands. Though I don’t consider myself very elegant and feminine, I try to look cool and be comfortable,” she says, adding late Maharani Gayatri Devi, to her, is an example of the most elegant woman ever. And when it comes to being modern and stylish, she considers Kangana Ranaut as the best.

Besides Player, Shekhar Kapur’s Mausam with Shahid Kapoor and Thank You with Akshay Kumar are her other upcoming films. “Next year will be a big commercial year for me. All these films are close to my heart. Acting is like changing clothes, you need to change yourself every day to fit into the role and then you manage to do justice to the variety of roles that you choose for yourself,” she concludes.
