On a visit to the City recently, the young and beautiful Sonam Kapoor spoke to Metrolife on her forthcoming films — ‘Aisha’ and ‘I Hate Love Stories’

She spoke about her forthcoming movie, Aisha, which is the Bollywood adaptation of Jane Austen’s popular novel, Emma and how much fun she had on the sets.

“Aisha is my sister Rhea’s baby. She is the producer and has put in a lot of hard work. I pray for her that the movie does well and my father gets his money’s worth,” said Sonam smiling.

Sonam says that the character of Emma is very similar to who she is in real life, which was the reason that she could pull it off with ease. “Essaying a character from a novel was not at all difficult because all I had to do was to read it a couple of times to get to know the background of the character,” she adds.

Aisha is the story of about six or seven friends, played by Abhay Deol, Cyrus Sahukar, Arunoday Singh, Ira Dubey and a few others. How important are friends in Sonam’s life? “Thankfully my closest pals are not from the industry which helps me keep away from all the mindless gossips. My friends are my support system and keep me grounded. We speak about everything from politics, books to movies. We even watched Sherlock Holmes as all of us are great fans of Robert Downey Jr,” she says.

On her co-stars Ira Dubey and Cyrus Sahukar, Sonam says, “Cyrus is one of my best friends and it was really nice working with him. He is a stand-up comedian and kept us in splits throughout.” About Ira Dubey, she adds, “I made a really good friend in Ira. She is very intelligent and a highly articulate person. I learnt a lot from her as a person and about acting as well.”

Rubbishing all rumours that she will be a part of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Sahibaan, Sonam avers, “Nothing like that is happening. I’m not a part of this movie. We discuss movies but it has not been offered to me as of now.”

And would she be interested in acting for regional movie banners? “I’m ready to act in any language be it Hindi, English, Chinese or Kannada. My emphasis is on the script and nothing else. Both my movies, Saawariya and Delhi 6 are completely different from each other. I am young and would love to experiment with as many roles as I can,” Sonam informs. Her other demand is that the movie should not be just about the hero and that she should not be a mere showpiece.

Another movie she is working on is a Dharma Productions’ movie, called I Hate Love Stories, with Imran Khan. This marks the directorial debut of Punit Malhotra, who is also a good friend of Sonam. When asked if she really hates love stories, Sonam gushes, “Like every other girl, I would also love to meet my man in a shining armour and we should fall in love by just looking at each other. I am a romantic and want to be married to the right man, forever.”
