“I have decided to work with ELLE for this cause because a magazine has a unique place in the life of a woman, making it perfectly placed to talk about these issues”, says Sonam Kapoor, Ambassador for the ELLE Breast Cancer Campaign.


The March 2009 cover of ELLE, the world’s largest-selling fashion magazine, features the actress, who, as per a company statement, willingly came forward for this venture and has also written a note advocating awareness of the disease.


Says ELLE’s Editor-in-Chief Nonita Kalra: “When I met Sonam for our breast cancer campaign, she agreed to be the ambassador only if I guaranteed her full-time involvement. Nothing less would do.”


Sonam affirms: “I’m happy to lend my support to the team to help spread awareness about this disease and, hopefully, make a difference in my own little way.”

The Ogaan Cancer Foundation and the ELLE Breast Cancer Campaign have been promoting better breast health for six years. A statement pointed out that breast cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide, and the most prevalent form of cancer among urban Indian women.
