Techtree recently got the opportunity to interact with the 'Masakali girl' Sonam Kapoor, of Delhi 6 movie fame, about the gadgets she owns and loves. We think she's tech-savvy, and in fact, she gives herself an 8 out of 10 as a tech enthusiast.
Techtree: Are you tech-savvy? Sonam Kapoor: Not very tech-savvy. I'm as tech-savvy as any other person in Bombay.
TT: How would you rate yourself as a tech enthusiast between 1 to 10? SK: 7 or 8.
TT: What gadgets do you own? SK: I own the newest iPod, which is a touchscreen iPod; a BlackBerry, through which I send messages, video notes, voice notes, etc. I never leave home without it! I have a laptop. I have a Macintosh -- not the newest one though! I actually really, really wanted to purchase Air (MacBook), but I already had a 17-inch with me. I'll get it later on because with the Mac Air one needs to carry all sorts of external drives for it. But this one (her Macintosh) has everything in it -- it has a DVD player, it has a CD writer, it has everything in it. Also, my Mac has a 'script writer,' on which one can write scripts. So, that's very convenient. I do most of my scheduling on my laptop. I also have the small white Bose iPhone dock. It's fabulous and it has amazing sound clarity. I have a television and a DVD player. That comprises pretty much everything that I need.
TT: Do you play games on any of the consoles? SK: I have an Xbox and a PS3, and I play a lot of games on them. My favorite is 'Burnout Revenge.'
TT: Do you also play games on your Mac, or your mobile phone? SK: I play games on my phone -- there's Brick Breaker on my BlackBerry.
TT: Do you download a lot of stuff, like music, games, etc.? SK: I don't have any downloaded games, but I do download a lot of music through my sister's account on Apple iTunes store. I download television shows as well. I've just downloaded the last couple of shows of Heroes. If I've not downloaded it on Apple, sometimes I download it on my laptop and connect it to my television to watch. Also, I love YouTube. They have some really funny, retarded videos there.
TT: What gadget do you never leave your home without? SK: I never leave home without my BlackBerry and another phone that I have. That's where I check mails, access my email and my Facebook account. In fact, I'm constantly on Facebook on my BlackBerry.
TT: Do you also have an Orkut account? SK: No. I have this incredible thing on my computer called Skype, which I use for video conferencing when abroad.
TT: Do you personally research a lot before purchasing a gadget, or do you seek advice from others? SK: Yes, I do look for info for a product that I want to purchase. I go to the Apple site if I want to find something new or if I need some software for my Macintosh, and order it.
TT: Where else do you shop online? SK: I shop a lot at Amazon.com because they're one of the few who ship stuff from the US to India.
TT: Do you also read reviews of gadgets? SK: Yes, I do read reviews written by regular people as well as by experts.
TT: How do you keep in touch with your fans? SK: Through email and my fan site on Facebook. I'm planning to start up my own website as well, but not immediately because I don't have much to say for the moment; but soon I'll have a lot to say.
TT: Are you aware of the 3G technology that'll enable you to surf the net on your phone faster? SK: 3G reminds me of the new Apple iPhone, which has this technology. I don't like the iPhone because I think it's really inconvenient to use. I'm not very comfortable using the touchscreen interface.
(We show her an E71)
My sister has an E71 and I find it quite small and uncomfortable to use. The white E71 looks really pretty. I prefer my BlackBerry's keypad; it's very comfortable to use.
Lastly, she thinks it's very sexist of us to tell her that it is refreshing to meet a girl who has so many gadgets for herself, and especially gaming consoles that are actually utilized.
Hope you enjoyed the interview; now we're off to watch Delhi 6, which releases in theaters today.
