'Slumdog Is Not Dad's Film' - Sonam...& Delhi 6 update

After Saawariya, many believed Sonam Kapoor would find it hard to survive in Bollywood. But the young girl is back and ready to prove her detractors wrong. She talks to us about being away for so long, about her film Delhi 6 and, of course, her father's internationally acclaimed film Slumdog Millionaire.

After Saawariya, it has taken you a long time to return to Bollywood. Why?

It didn't take me that long…it's only a year. And after Saawariya I had one film in hand which was Delhi 6. I don't think its bad to have one film a year. I had signed this film two months before Saawariya released.

Masakali has become very popular. Did you think it would?

It was a lot of fun filming it especially with the white pigeon on my head. And I love the song too!

What kind of compliments have you been getting?

It's been overwhelming. But actually it's the kamaal of Vaibhavi Merchant. She is a brilliant choreographer. I only imitated her in the film. So whatever you see is a lot of her and it's obviously of Vinod Pradhan and Vikram Dada who worked on my looks. The way any actor looks or acts…it's not only his contribution…it's the work of the whole cast and crew. And also my director, who's the hardest working person!

Which is your favorite song in the film?

Earlier I used to think Masakali was the best but slowly when I started listening to the rap version of the title tack Delhi 6, I think that's the best song now. But all songs are very good and Rahman has done a great job. Again!

We hear you were the victim of a lot of pranks on the sets…

Yes…Abhishek and Rakeysh both have always made a fool out of me. They used to call me to the sets at 4 in the morning when nobody was there. But it was great working with Abhishek…we had a great time on sets. We both are foodies!

You have walked the ramp. And been the cover of many magazines. How glamourous do you feel?

Frankly speaking I don't believe in glamour as different from my work. Whatever the character demands, I wear, because you don't see Sonam Kapoor on screen…it's the character. I am not here to just to be on screen and look pretty. I have come here to act.

Your father's film Slumdog Millionaire has been the news. How does that make you feel?

I will not say it's my father's film. I think we all should be proud of A.R.Rahman. Because his contribution is the most. It's a very prestigious award for India which a great music director has brought for us.
