These new kids on the block have taken Bollywood by storm. They are the names to watch out for this year. They've already proved their mettle and are poised for greater success.


Coy Maiden

Sonam's likely to be disappointed with Ranbir walking away with all the accolades for Saawariya and another debutante Deepika Padukone rising to stardom on the same day. But she certainly is not showing it. "I am really happy for Ranbir, he's worked so hard for this," she says proudly. And about being unsurped by Deepika on the same day she says wisely, "It's not a sprint race. We are all doing our job and want to be appreciated. That's why we are actors. There's no point really in acting in isolation for yourself, is it?" she shoots back.

What Sonam might lack in spontaneity, as she appears more studied and composed, she makes up for her sincerity. Not many would believe that Sonam had weighty issues growing up, a stunner that she's turned out to be. But she's disciplined herself to almost perfection. Says her director Bhanslai, "Sonam's a little difficult when you have to tell her why something has to be done a certain way; she'll come up with numerous questions. That's how egaer she is to educate herself."

Jackie Shroff, long time buddy of her father Anil Kapoor, was pleasently surprised when he saw Saawariya. "I couldn't believe this girl who'd grown up in front of my eyes was emoting so effortlessly. She has an easy screen presence which will hold her in good stead," he says.

Sonam is ably guided by father Anil, who's apparently weeding through every script coming her way. "I don't want to come across as an eager dad woh is controlling his daughter's career. I am proud of the fact that Sonam can make her own decisions," he adds. Sonam is all set to prove her mark with Rakyesh Mehra's Dilli 6.
